Breath Carbon Monoxide (CO) Monitoring
Helping People To Stop Smoking
A simple breath test with a Smokerlyzer® will measure the levels of toxic carbon monoxide (CO) inhaled from tobacco smoke. CO in itself is harmful, as it reduces the amount of oxygen taken up by the body, but it can also act as an indicator as to the possible level of some 4,000 toxic substances in cigarette smoke, 60 of which cause cancer.
The Smokerlyzer® range of carbon monoxide (CO) monitors and testers is used during smoking cessation programmes to give the smoker visible proof of the damaging CO levels and to help motivate by charting the progress during the programme. All the instruments are surgically non-invasive, lightweight, battery powered, simple to operate and use hygienic inexpensive disposable mouthpieces. The Smokerlyzer® range is clinically proven and has become the benchmark used throughout the world by health professionals working in smoking cessation programmes and research.
piCO+
Low cost and visually motivational, the piCO+™ is a leader in a new generation of breath CO monitors. The monitor has user profiles for adult smokers, young smokers and pregnant women, as well the ability to easily create custom profiles when used alongside the COdata+ PC software, making it a favourite with group smoking cessation clinics.
The piCO+™ can also be used along side the MaternityCO™ Chart to illustrate the dangers of smoking whilst pregnant and the effects that first and second hand smoke can have on an unborn baby.
Micro+
The Micro Smokerlyzer® has long been regarded as the benchmark for breath CO monitors having been used in clinical trials and research programmes for many years.
Bedfont have now developed the Micro+, with the ability to analyse breath samples from adults and adolescents as well as automatic conversion to foetal %COHb, the Micro+ is the most comprehensive monitor available.
COmpact™
The COmpact™ Smokerlyzer breath carbon monoxide tester offers the opportunity for health professionals and associated practitioners with limited budgets to offer breath testing as part of their smoking intervention.
The COmpact™ Smokerlyzer gives an indication of smoking status through seven level indicators using the familiar red, amber and green traffic light system. This tester is ideal for brief interventions in a variety of different settings, including pharmacies, schools and health visiting services, allowing cost effective CO breath testing to be available to a much wider audience.
babyCOmpact™
The babyCOmpact™ is a small and affordable tester that can used as part of your everyday screening at all antenatal appointments. Displaying the damaging CO levels within the mother's blood can create the opportunity for discussing whether she would like to quit smoking, or requires extra help.
